한 매체에서 북한의 소학교와 고급 중학교의 교육 강령을 입수해 유치원(1년), 소학교(5년), 초급중학교(3년), 고급중학교(3년) 총 12년의 의무교육체계를 소개했는데 북한의 소학교 학생들은 ‘위대한 수령 김일성 대원수님 어린시절’, ‘위대한 령도자 김정일 대원수님 어린시절’, ‘경애하는 김정은 원수님 어린시절’, ‘항일의 녀성영웅 김정숙 어머님 어린시절’, ‘사회주의도덕’을 배우는 것으로 알려졌다. 

우리나라의 고등학교로 볼 수 있는 고급중학교에서는 ‘위대한 수령 김일성 대원수님 혁명력사’, ‘위대한 령도자 김정일 대원수님 혁명력사’, ‘항일의 녀성영웅 김정숙 어머님 혁명력사’, ‘경애하는 김정은 원수님 혁명력사’를 배울 뿐만 아니라 ‘현행 당 정책’, ‘사회주의도덕과 법’, ‘군사활동초보’, ‘공업 기초’, ‘농업 기초’ 등의 과목을 배운다고 전해졌다.
